Installing a Linux Distro - Part 2

Some information screens, sit back and enjoy the intro


The app names will be different, but just as useful and free!


It is politely removing any programs that you do not need, don't worry.


Remove the CD/DVD or USB and click to restart! 

You have installed your first Linux distro.


The command line is used during booting in Linux to show you progress,
can you see 29.4 seconds elapsed?


Virtual Box may show some warnings, do not worry about them for now.


The Lubuntu desktop
You will have less icons at first.



Virtual Box users only (the rest go to down to physical machine users)
click the devices tab and select Insert Guest Additions Image. This will install special drivers for graphics, mouse, sound, networking. This will allow you to use it full screen.

Have a look at Oracle's instructions to install guest additions. Do not worry, it is really simple and very worthwhile.



Use the right 'Ctrl' key to use your mouse or touch on the main screen.

Physical machine users can join in again here!
Reboot the machine when prompted

Here is your Linux LXDE desktop, click Menu bottom left (start) and have a look in each category.


You can easily add anything that you need by right clicking it's entry in the menu and selecting 'add to desktop'.

Easy isn't it?



Click Firefox or Chromium and see if you can get on the internet.
Wifi users may need to carry out driver installation or network setup. Don't worry it's usually easy.




When you want to restart or shutdown, either click the start button on the left and select 'logout' then 'shutdown', or the power button on the right hand side and do the same, they are both the same.
